Paper Memories

Happy hump day, middle of the week day,  a burrrr, shiver, start to this  February Winter's day, in the Texas town I currently call home, population over 2,000 but not quite 3,000 at last count.
I was just remembering things from when I was a young girl.   Remember Betsy McCall, the cut out paper doll,  from the McCalls magazine?  Unlike most of my neighborhood playmates, I  thought hard plastic, unbendable,  Barbie,  with  tiny clothes impossible to change were ridiculous and boring.  Betsy McCall on the other hand, with her happy, paper family arriving new each month, was my best friend.  I would carefully cut out the white cardboard that Mom's pantyhose came wrapped around, so Betsy could stand up straight and the paper tabs on the edge of her dresses would wrap neatly over her shoulders. Changing Betsy's clothes was a breeze and she never lacked for new wardrobe.  I also liked those paper cards with the punched out holes outlining a cartoon like character. They came with shoelace like yarn so a kid could sew around the picture without a needle. I would 'sew' all the cards then pull out the yarn and do it again.  A super fun thing was rolling out Silly Putty on the colorful Sunday Comic strips then stretching the transferred pictures.   Paper memories from when I was very young. kisses
